The committee, chaired by Richard Henneman, was constituted to study whether there was a "significant need" for a comprehensive examination at the end of the second year of college work, and if so, how such an exam should be constituted, prepared, administered and scored. The usefulness of such an examination for college students declaring majors, the evaluation of teaching effectiveness, and the screening of transfer students from branch colleges was studied and concluded unanimously that such an examination was not necessary.
